It’s a wrap! Tijuana River Action Month (TRAM) 2016 ended on October 15 after a series of education and stewardship events benefiting the Tijuana River Watershed.
Thanks to funding from California American Water, Outdoor Outreach was able to participate in a community cleanup of Goat Canyon, in partnership with WiLDCOAST, the Surfrider Foundation, the Tijuana Estuary (Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve) and California State Parks.
On Saturday, October 15, over 60 volunteers, including 31 Outdoor Outreach participants removed 1.12 tons of debris and 16 tires from the Canyon —one of the most environmentally degraded areas in San Diego County.
The event provided opportunities for young participants to contribute meaningfully to their community, and inspired them to respect and protect the places where they play.
“Participating in Outdoor Outreach makes me want to clean up my community and take better care of the environment. By having so many chances to enjoy nature, I am excited to help protect it too,” said Paw Wah, a Crawford High School Adventure Club participant.
A big thank you to California American Water for investing in the environmental stewards of tomorrow!
