Miguel is a promising 18-year old from San Diego, who joined Outdoor Outreach’s Leadership Program in May 2015. Through the Leadership Program, Miguel has excelled as an outdoor educator, and positive role model and mentor for other young people. In addition to his role at Outdoor Outreach, Miguel is enrolled at Grossmont College, and recently began working at Jack in the Box to help support his mother with the family’s expenses.
Tragically, on January 1, 2016, Miguel was struck in the head by a bullet in a freak New Year’s accident. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at Scripps Mercy Hospital fighting bravely to recover. 10 News spoke with Miguel’s mother and OO staff.
The best way to help Miguel right now is to support his family through this difficult time. Funds will help cover the family’s basic living expenses like rent and food, as well as the costs associated with his hospital stay, such as visitor parking passes. Just last year, Miguel’s father — the family’s main provider — passed away from cancer. Since then, the family has been just barely getting by.
If you are interested in supporting Miguel and his family, please visit their Go Fund Me page and give as generously as you can. Anything you can afford to donate will make a big difference and will help the family deal with this tragedy.
