Huber Awards $70,000 Impact Your Community Funding Grant to local nonprofit, Outdoor Outreach
J.M. Huber Corporation (Huber) recently awarded a grant of $70,000 to Outdoor Outreach to run more than 400 adventure-based recreational learning programs in and around San Diego County, helping 2,000+ teens learn how they can preserve and protect the places where they play.
The grant was part of Huber’s global commitment and initiative – called Huber Helps – to donate 1% of its net income annually to philanthropic causes around the world. The Company specifically focuses on environmental, housing, education and humanitarian causes as part of its strategic approach to community engagement and philanthropy.
Huber employee Nancy Case, Purchasing Manager at Huber’s CP Kelco, submitted an Impact Your Community funding application on behalf of Outdoor Outreach in October, 2021. The submission was one of several globally that was approved for funding in 2022.
Annie Sawyer, the Sr. Director of Development at Outdoor Outreach says, “For the youth we work with—who have been affected by social inequalities like poverty, homelessness, neighborhood violence, substance abuse, and more—connection to outdoor spaces can be transformational. Every chance to bike, surf, kayak, or climb with Outdoor Outreach is so much more than a fun day outside with their friends. It’s a chance to explore their world and discover new strengths they didn’t know they were capable of. Most importantly, it’s a chance to connect with a community of friends and reliable adult mentors who believe in them and show them that they matter.”
The Impact Your Community funding program is one component of Huber Helps that invites employees to apply for funding that can be used to contribute to projects that can benefit a community for multiple years or generations. The goal is to support projects that offer Huber the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy in communities around the world where Huber operates.
Projects were evaluated on the following criteria:
- provides multi-year benefits to the community
- organization has a robust governance structure and is a registered charity or its equivalent in its jurisdiction
- multiple Huber employees can volunteer or get involved with the project
